THE ENDLESS DREAM

I went to sleep and dreamed a dream I cannot comprehend,
of sorcerers and witches' brew and magic on the wind.
I slept and slept all through the night and then I slept some more.
I dreamed this endless dream you read. I hope it’s not a bore.
I dreamed I saw a little frog which hopped about so gay.
It turned into a yellow bird and then it flew away.
It landed on a big red rose and started in to sing,
but when it tried to fly again it found it had no wing.
It turned into a little deer, which ran about a mile.
But when a big black bear came by it turned into a crocodile.
The crocodile swung round its tail and crawled into the sea.
It turned into a big black fish and the fish was caught by me.
I took the fish back home and put a pan upon the fire.
But when I went to get the fish it turned into a lyre.
It played the strangest music like I never heard before.
It made me grow so sleepy that I soon began to snore.
I went to sleep and dreamed a dream I cannot comprehend,
of sorcerers and witches' brew and magic on the wind.
I slept and slept all through the night and then I slept some more.
I dreamed this endless dream you read. I hope it’s not a bore.
